Prime Video has acquired the rights to Fremantle and Fox Entertainment’s Baywatch reboot in several European markets, including Germany and France, as well as Latin America, Canada and India.

The deal also includes an agreement for Prime Video to license the entire back catalogue of the original Baywatch series (nine seasons) in addition to both seasons of Baywatch Hawaii.

The 12-part first season of the new show will premiere on US broadcaster Fox in January 2027. It will also roll out on Prime Video next year, though a specific launch date has not been given.

In Europe, Prime Video has also acquired the reboot for Italy, Spain, Portugal, Benelux, Switzerland, Austria and Turkey.

The new iteration of the lifeguard drama stars Stephen Amell alongside Jessica Belkin, Shay Mitchell, Hassie Harrison, Thaddeus LaGrone, Noah Beck and Brooks Nader, plus former gymnast Livvy Dunne.

Matt Nix (Burn Notice, The Gifted) is showrunner and executive producer, with McG, Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto and Mike Horowitz also exec producing.

The deal was brokered by Michela Di Mondo, Fremantle’s executive VP of distribution, Canada and international. Fox Entertainment Global holds US distribution rights, with Fremantle managing all international sales.

Di Mondo said: “Few shows have made as big a splash or had such lasting cultural impact as Baywatch, and this landmark deal marks a significant moment for one of the industry’s most eagerly anticipated launches. This is just the beginning of what we believe will be an exciting new chapter for Baywatch.”
