Google has announced a major update for Ask Maps in India, introducing Hindi language support, Gmail-powered Personal Intelligence, conversation history, and real-time public transport information. Powered by Gemini and Google Maps data, Ask Maps enables users to ask natural language questions about places, routes, travel planning, and local recommendations. The latest update makes the experience more personalized while improving support for Indian users through native Hindi interactions and live travel information.
One of the biggest additions is Hindi language support. Users across India can now ask questions in Hindi and receive responses naturally, making it easier to discover nearby places, find directions, explore attractions, and plan trips without switching languages. Google says Ask Maps can understand conversational Hindi queries while providing the same Maps-powered recommendations and navigation assistance.
Google has also introduced Personal Intelligence, allowing Ask Maps to deliver personalized recommendations by securely connecting with a user’s Gmail account. When users choose to enable the feature, Ask Maps can access relevant information such as hotel bookings, flight reservations, and restaurant confirmations to provide context-aware travel suggestions.
For example, if a user has a hotel booking in another city and an evening flight, Ask Maps can recommend nearby attractions, restaurants, or cafés around the hotel while also suggesting the ideal time to leave for the airport. Google notes that Gmail access remains disabled by default, and users have complete control over whether to enable the feature. Support for additional Google services, including Google Calendar, will be introduced in a future update.
Another useful addition is conversation history. With history enabled, Ask Maps can remember previous conversations, allowing users to continue travel planning without starting over. Someone who previously asked for sightseeing recommendations in Seattle, for instance, can later ask Ask Maps to recall those suggestions and continue planning from where they left off.
Google is also expanding Ask Maps with real-time travel information to help users make better decisions before leaving home. The AI assistant can now provide live updates for:
- Traffic conditions
- Weather information
- Busy levels at restaurants and shops
- Public transport status
A new Transit Widget brings real-time information for buses, metro services, and trains directly into Ask Maps. Users can check live departure schedules, route updates, expected delays, connecting transport options, and updated waiting times when services are disrupted.
For example, someone checking ISBT Kashmere Gate can view live information for inter-city buses, Delhi buses, and Delhi Metro services from a single interface, making it easier to plan multimodal journeys.
Google says these improvements further combine the reasoning capabilities of Gemini with Google’s live Maps data to provide conversational travel planning, personalized recommendations, and real-time navigation assistance.
