Maharashtra LLB Admissions 2026: CAP Round-I Deadline Extended Amid Significant College Additions
Mumbai, August 9, 2026 – The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell has announced a crucial extension for candidates applying to the three-year and five-year LLB courses for the 2026-27 academic year. The deadline for filling and submitting the Option Form for CAP Round-I has been pushed to August 11, 2026, from the previously set date of August 9, 2026. This extension comes as a direct response to the ongoing process of adding new law colleges to the admission pool.
Reasons for the Extension: Expanding Educational Opportunities
The decision to extend the deadline stems from several law colleges still being in the final stages of obtaining crucial approvals from the Bar Council of India (BCI) and securing affiliation from their respective universities. As these institutions receive the necessary clearances, they are progressively being integrated into the list of colleges available for candidates to choose from during the CAP Round-I preference-filling process.
A notice released by the Maharashtra CET Cell confirmed that the continuing process of statutory approvals and university affiliations will provide candidates with an expanded array of choices. The authority has strongly urged all applicants to utilize this extended window to carefully complete their Option Forms.
Significant Increase in College Options
The impact of these ongoing approvals is evident in the substantial increase in the number of available institutions for both LLB programs. For the three-year LLB course, the number of colleges has surged to 146. This marks an addition of 53 colleges since August 5, 2026, when only 93 colleges were listed.
Similarly, candidates aspiring for the five-year LLB course now have 101 colleges at their disposal, a significant jump from the 56 colleges available on August 5, 2026. This translates to an impressive addition of 45 colleges within a short period.
Detailed College Availability
| Course | Colleges on August 5 | Colleges added | Current colleges |
| Three-year LLB | 93 | 53 | 146 |
| Five-year LLB | 56 | 45 | 101 |
| Total | 149 | 98 | 247 |
In total, across both LLB programs, 98 new colleges have been added, bringing the total count of institutions participating in the CAP Round-I to 247. The CET Cell has also indicated that this number is not final, and more law colleges might be included as they secure the necessary approvals and affiliations.
Candidate Advisory
All candidates participating in CAP Round-I are strongly advised to meticulously review the updated list of approved colleges on the official Maharashtra CET Cell website before finalizing their preferences. This expanded selection of institutions presents a valuable opportunity for applicants to refine their choices and align them with their academic aspirations.
Important: Candidates seeking admission to three-year and five-year LLB programmes must submit their Option Forms by the revised deadline of August 11, 2026.
