TWICE’s Jeongyeon Departs, First Member to Leave JYP Entertainment

TWICE’s Jeongyeon Departs JYP Entertainment, Vows Continued Commitment to Group

TWICE member Jeongyeon has officially announced her departure from JYP Entertainment, making her the first member of the globally renowned K-pop group to part ways with the agency. The 29-year-old singer shared the news with fans on Monday, August 10, through a heartfelt handwritten letter posted on her Instagram account.

According to reports from CNA, Jeongyeon conveyed in her message that the decision to leave JYP was initially “daunting.” However, she found the necessary courage to embark on this new chapter, crediting the unwavering support of her fellow TWICE members and the group’s dedicated fanbase, known as Once. She also extended profound gratitude to the JYP family for their instrumental role in her personal and professional growth throughout her tenure with the agency.

Future with TWICE Remains Undisturbed

Despite this significant change in her agency affiliation, Jeongyeon emphatically stressed that her future and role within TWICE remain entirely unchanged. She affirmed that the group will continue to be “the centre of my life” and that her commitment to standing before Once as a TWICE member will remain her paramount priority.

“I thank you from the bottom of my heart for believing in me and always staying by my side. Since we still have so much time ahead of us to create new memories, I will work hard to fill those moments even more beautifully with Once,” wrote Jeongyeon in her emotional letter, reassuring fans of her dedication.

New Agency and Broader Industry Speculation

Jeongyeon is set to join South Korean agency Varo Entertainment, a company that also represents her sister, acclaimed actress Gong Seung-yeon, and actor Byeon Woo-seok. This move comes just weeks after South Korean media outlets reported on the possibility of fellow TWICE member Tzuyu also considering a departure from JYP Entertainment.

However, CNA noted that at the time of publication, the status of the individual solo contracts for the remaining eight TWICE members had not been disclosed. Jeongyeon’s departure therefore marks a pivotal new chapter for the singer, demonstrating her continued commitment to her role within TWICE while exploring new professional avenues under Varo Entertainment.
