Anantara to open two hotels in India

Minor Hotels will expand its Anantara brand in India with two new properties, including a resort in Coorg and a city hotel in Kolkata.

The move follows Anantara’s entry into India in 2025 with the opening of Anantara Jewel Bagh Jaipur, with the latest projects marking the brand’s first resort and first city hotel in the country.

Anantara Zanti Coorg Resort

Anantara Zanti Coorg Resort is scheduled to open in 2028 in Karnataka’s Western Ghats near Madikeri.

Designed by Sri Lankan architect Channa Daswatte, the 69-key resort will be set within a forested area, with buildings spread across the site. The design draws on the region’s landscape, coffee heritage and Kodava culture.

Facilities will include four dining venues, a lobby lounge and library, plus a pool, spa, wellness centre and fitness studio, and multiple meeting and event spaces.

William Heinecke, Founder and Chairman of Minor International, said: “Coorg’s natural beauty exemplifies India’s potential for experiential luxury and is ideal for the Anantara brand.”

Anantara Kolkata Hotel

Anantara Kolkata Hotel is expected to open in 2032 as part of the World Trade Center Salt Lake development and will be a joint venture between Aryan Realty and Merlin Group.

The 170-key hotel will be positioned for business and events demand, with two restaurants, a lobby lounge and meeting facilities, alongside a spa, gym and swimming pool.

The projects form part of Minor Hotels’ wider expansion strategy in India, where the group is targeting both resort destinations and key cities as domestic and inbound travel demand grows.

Minor Hotels aims to operate 50 properties in India within the next decade, with growth led through its Anantara, Avani and NH Collection brands, alongside select-service and conversion-focused offerings.
