For someone born into a theatre family, you would expect movie nights, backstage stories, and early acting dreams. But Jisshu Sengupta says his childhood looked nothing like that. No film obsession, no acting ambitions, just cricket bats, drumsticks, and a life far away from cinema.
Jisshu revealed that neither Hindi nor Bengali films shaped his early years. This comes as a surprise because his father was a theatre actor. But at home, the atmosphere was different.

According to him, his mother believed one actor in the family was enough. That simple rule meant he never seriously thought about acting while growing up. Instead of watching films, he focused on other passions.
Cricket first, music always
The actor shared that sports and music dominated his childhood. He played cricket at a competitive level and even represented Bengal Under-19. Alongside cricket, music became another big love.
He said he was a drummer then, and still is today. He even has a band. Academics, however, were never his strong point. But life had other plans. Almost by chance, he eventually entered the entertainment industry and stayed.
Now, he is close to completing nearly 30 years in showbiz, something he never imagined as a kid.
From television to film stardom
Jisshu started his journey on television before moving into films. Over time, he became one of the most respected names in Bengali cinema. His performances in films like ‘Autograph’, ‘Chotushkone’, ‘Jaatishwar and Ek Je Chhilo Raja’ earned him wide appreciation.
He also stepped into Hindi cinema and made a mark with appearances in ‘Barfi!’, ‘Piku’, ‘Mardaani’ and ‘Shakuntala Devi’.
Next stop: Bhooth Bangla
The actor is now preparing for his upcoming film Bhooth Bangla. The movie features a big ensemble including Akshay Kumar, Rajpal Yadav, Paresh Rawal, Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi and veteran star Asrani.
The film was earlier scheduled for release on March 10 but has now been pushed. It is set to hit theatres on April 17.
