A fiery clash erupted on CNN after the news channel brought a breaking Donald Trump update. The US President had been downplaying the rising costs of oil as the Iran war rages on.
Journalist Kasie Hunt was speaking to Republican politician Jim Jordan via video link live on air when the two clashed. He claimed that Trump makes decisions “that are in the best interest of our country”. He went on: “President Trump does what he said he would do. He told the American people he would secure the border and he did, he told them that he would cut taxes and he did…” But then the CNN host interrupted as she said: “He told them that he wouldn’t start any new wars,” but Mr Jordan continued to rage on.
He explained that the President is “making sure that this regime doesn’t get nuclear capability”. He said: “That would be devastating for the price of oil and all other reasons. That would be a bad outcome.”
But Kasie then shared some clips of previous speeches that Trump had made as she pointed out that he said: “I’m not going to start a war, I am going to stop wars.”
“How is that an example of Donald Trump doing what he said he is going to do?” She asked.
Mr Jordan hit back: “He tried to!” He went on to say that Trump was “willing” to sit down with Iran to “try and figure this out”.
However, the politician claimed that “Iran was committed to pursuing and getting a nuclear weapon and they said that there was no other alternative.”
Fans of the news channel took to social media to laugh about Trump being called out on his hypocrisy. One viewer wrote on X/Twitter: “Lmao. He quite literally broke every promise he campaigned on.”
Another fumed: “How do you lie so blatantly when shown evidence that you are lying. He did not say that he would start a war if negotiations fail, he said he would not start a war period!!”
While one more raged: “This is why we hate politicians and can never trust them. Not an ounce of integrity.”
