March 18 (Reuters) – Indian shares opened higher on Wednesday, continuing a recovery after last week’s Iran war-driven slump, tracking gains across Asia and as oil prices came off slightly.
The Nifty 50 was up 0.66% at 23,736.9, while the BSE Sensex gained 0.63% to 76,547, as of 9:20 a.m. IST.
Fifteen of the 16 major sectors logged gains at the open. The broader small-caps and mid-caps rose 0.5% each.
The Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex have climbed about 2% so far this week, clawing back some of the steep losses from their worst week in years, when both indexes confirmed a technical correction.
