KD The Devil director states Sarke Chunar song was not intended for controversy
As rumors circulated that the backlash was a marketing tactic, director Prem categorically rejected the notion. He told Hindustan Times, “I have no desire for controversy. This is an emotional film, and the song was merely intended to be a lighthearted, celebratory track.” He noted that the song has received positive feedback in Karnataka and Kerala, and he did not aim to stir up trouble with it.

The director clarified that while he crafted the original Kannada lyrics, the Hindi adaptation was done by lyricist Raqueeb Alam. He acknowledged that he was unaware of the specific phrases that later sparked backlash. Prem mentioned that the Kannada version was well-received without any issues. He confessed, “I’m not proficient in Hindi, so I didn’t fully understand the translated lines. I come from a village where expressions like ‘neeche mat gira, uthao’ are part of daily Janapada language.”
Meanwhile, Nora Fatehi also spoke on the matter, stating she was unaware of the Hindi version and had not authorized the use of her image in it.
The film KD:The Devil stars Dhruva Sarja in the lead role, alongside Sanjay Dutt, Shilpa Shetty, V Ravichandran, Ramesh Aravind, Reeshma Nanaiah, Jisshu Sengupta, and Nora Fatehi. The film is set to hit theaters on April 30, 2026.
