Tamworth Borough Council encourages community to support Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British spring clean

  • Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British spring clean call upon volunteers to litter pick as ‘environment belong to everyone’
  • Residents encouraged to pledge to pick at least one bag of litter during the national campaign
  • Free litter bags available from Marmion House to support volunteers taking part

Tamworth Borough Council appeals to the community to pledge to pick one bag of litter, or more, for Keep Britain Tidy’s 11th Great British Spring Clean.

Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean campaign, which runs from 13-29 March 2026, is calling residents across Tamworth to show they love where they live by taking part in the mass action litter pick.

Tamworth Borough Council is sharing Keep Britan Tidy’s plea to residents to pledge on the charity’s website to pick one bag or more of litter from streets, parks and beauty spots in order to protect our vibrant communities and precious wildlife habitats.

To help volunteers take part, litter bags are available at the Marmion House front reception where residents are welcome to come along and collect a few bags to get involved. Once the bags are full, they can be left next to any street litter bin for collection alongside scheduled bin emptying, there’s no need to report the location.

Local community litter-picking groups are also getting involved. Two of Tamworth’s dedicated volunteer litter picking groups, Tamworth COOL Pickers and Tamworth Volunteer Litterpickers, have already arranged organised litter picks across the borough, giving residents the opportunity to join in a group effort and make even a bigger impact in their neighbourhoods.

Keeping Tamworth clean is a year-round priority for the council. Tamworth Borough Council’s teams work throughout the year to tackle litter and environmental crime across the borough. Teams regularly carry out litter picking and respond to reports of fly-tipping to help keep Tamworth’s streets, parks and public spaces clean and safe for everyone.

If you spot any fly-tipping, you can report this online and it will be investigated and cleared. For more information on litter, fly-tipping and how to report, see our website: https://www.tamworth.gov.uk/environment/environmental-crime/litter-and-flytipping

Keep Britain Tidy reports that last year:

  • 95% of participants agreed that they felt they had made a difference to their local area.
  • 88% of people who took part in the Great British Spring Clean agreed they feel part of a national movement that is taking action to tackle litter

Councillor David Foster, deputy leader and portfolio holder for environmental sustainability, waste, recycling and transport for Tamworth Borough Council, said: “Keeping Tamworth clean is something we can all take pride in, and the Great British Spring Clean is a fantastic opportunity for our community to come together and make a real difference.

“The environment belongs to everyone, and even small actions like picking up one bag of litter can have a big impact on the places where we live, work and spend our time.

“We’re proud to support this national campaign and the fantastic work already being done by our local litter picking groups and volunteers. I would encourage anyone who can spare a little time to get involved, pledge a bag, and help keep Tamworth looking its best.”

The Great British Spring Clean brings together individuals, community organisations, businesses and councils to make a difference to the environment on our doorstep.

Keep Britain Tidy’s chief executive, Allison Ogden-Newton OBE, said: “We are so grateful for the amazing support from Tamworth’s communities.

“The Great British Spring Clean is a fantastic way for councils and communities to come together to really show their pride in where they live, and connect with like-minded people, while taking serious and immediate action to protect the environment on their doorstep.

“We are humbled to see our army of Litter Heroes volunteers carrying out these acts of kindness to make the planet a cleaner, safer place for our future generations.”
