Amid ongoing uncertainty over possible ground operations in Iran and a significant military buildup in the Gulf, US President Donald Trump shared a video showing a massive explosion in Iran, believed to have occurred overnight.
Early media reports indicate that the United States and Israel may have carried out joint strikes on the Iranian city of Isfahan, with visuals circulating online capturing a large-scale blast.
Eyewitness accounts and footage suggest intense overnight strikes on Isfahan, a major city with a population of around 2.3 million and home to the Badr military airbase. The attacks reportedly triggered huge explosions and fires that lit up the night sky.
Reports indicate that the attack triggered a series of powerful secondary explosions, sending towering fireballs and shockwaves across the area.
Recent reports have also suggested that Iran may have relocated its highly enriched uranium stockpiles, estimated at around 540 kg, to an underground facility in Isfahan.
The reports of the strikes came a day after Trump, on Monday, threatened widespread destruction of Iran’s energy resources and other vital infrastructure, including nuclear facilities and water plants, if a deal to end the war is not reached “shortly”.
US President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have repeatedly alleged that Iran was close to building a nuclear weapon, a claim not supported by the UN nuclear watchdog, and that comes despite Trump saying he “obliterated” key sites in attacks last year.
