Actress and dancer Nora Fatehi has responded to the controversy surrounding the song Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke from the film KD: The Devil, clarifying her position and distancing herself from the Hindi version that triggered widespread criticism.
In a detailed video message, she addressed the backlash, stating that she was unaware of how the track would eventually be adapted and released.
‘Shot in Kannada, later altered’
Nora Fatehi explained that she had originally filmed the song in Kannada around three years ago and had agreed to be part of it because it was associated with a major project and featured Sanjay Dutt.
She said that at the time of shooting, nothing in the content appeared inappropriate to her.
However, she clarified that she does not understand Kannada and relied on the information provided by the makers during filming.
According to her, the Hindi version of the song, which later surfaced online, was created without her knowledge or consent. She emphasised that she neither approved the lyrics nor participated in the Hindi adaptation.
Concerns raised at launch event
The actor revealed that she first noticed discrepancies during the song’s launch event, where she saw the Kannada version’s lyrical video.
She expressed dissatisfaction with the visuals used, stating that unflattering images and even an AI-generated image featuring her and Sanjay Dutt had been included.
Although she was displeased, she chose to remain composed at the event.
Nora Fatehi added that she had already communicated her concerns to the filmmakers, warning them that the Hindi version could invite criticism.
‘Backlash forced action’
Speaking about the controversy, she said she had distanced herself from the project after realising how the Hindi version had been presented.
She stated that she did not promote the song and had informed the director that her image and reputation were at stake.
According to her, the backlash played a significant role in prompting the makers to take the content down.
She also highlighted the limited control artists often have over final outputs, especially when projects are handled across different film industries.
Calls for accountability
Nora Fatehi urged that responsibility should lie with filmmakers and producers when controversial content is created.
She cautioned against using an artist’s name without proper approval and called for greater accountability in the industry.
She also said that she and her team would adopt stricter measures in the future before associating with projects.
In her social media post, she reiterated that she had no involvement in the Hindi version and requested people to stop sharing the song, as it would only give it more visibility.
Wider backlash and legal action
The controversy has drawn reactions from several public figures and organisations, including Kangana Ranaut and Armaan Malik, along with the All India Cine Workers Association.
Reports indicate that a legal petition has been filed with the Central Board of Film Certification seeking a ban on the song, citing concerns over allegedly obscene lyrics and visuals.
Additionally, a criminal complaint has been lodged with the Delhi Police Cyber Cell, further intensifying scrutiny over the issue.
