North East Lincolnshire Council is asking residents and communities to pledge to pick one bag of litter – or more – for Keep Britain Tidy’s 11th Great British Spring Clean
North East Lincolnshire Councilhas today backed a bid to pick litter from North East Lincolnshirestreets and public spaces during Britain’s favourite environmental charity’s clean-up campaign.
Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean campaign, which runs from Friday,13 March, to Sunday, 29 March, is calling on residents across the borough to show they love where they live by taking part in the mass action litter pick.
North East Lincolnshire Councilis delighted to lend their support to back the charity’s plea to residents to pledge on the charity’s website to pick one bag or more of litter from streets, parks, beauty spots and beaches to protect our vibrant communities and precious wildlife habitats.
The charity reports that last year:
- 95% of participants agreed that they felt they had made a difference to their local area.
- 88% of people who took part in the Great British Spring Clean agreed they feel part of a national movement that is taking action to tackle litter
Henry Hudson, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Net Zero, said: “This initiative is a great example of what can be achieved when communities come together.
“The Great British Spring Clean is a wonderful scheme and we’re proud to support it -we would urge anyone who wants to give litter picking a try to get involved.”

The Great British Spring Clean brings together individuals, community organisations, businesses and councils to make a difference to the environment on our doorstep.

He added: “Last year the Council committed to becoming a Marmot Place, setting out our ambitions to dramatically improve public health here in North East Lincolnshire. Some of this is about ensuring that the environment that we live in is kept clean and tidy, and that social connections are strengthened.
“The Great British Spring Clean is a fantastic opportunity to get spend time outside with others whilst also making a difference to our community.”
Councillor Stan Shreeve, deputy leader at North East Lincolnshire Council and portfolio holder for health, wellbeing and adult social care, said: “As the days get longer and the sun shines brighter, the Great British Spring Clean is the ideal opportunity to step outside, breathe in some fresh air, and get your body moving.
“Whether you’re litter-picking in your local park, strolling along the beach, or tidying up the street, it’s an uplifting way to get active. Even light movement, such as bending, walking and stretching, boosts your wellbeing, and doing it outdoors adds an extra lift to your mood. Best of all, every piece of litter collected helps protect local wildlife, keeps communities looking their best, and supports a cleaner, healthier environment for everyone.”
