Castle Park incidents since December
- A park in Bristol city centre has seen a number of serious incidents in recent weeks.
- Last weekend, a woman was raped in a city centre park in broad daylight, marking this the latest serious incident at Castle Park within weeks. Emergency services were called to Castle Park at around 10.30am on Sunday, March 15. The victim was taken to hospital and has since been discharged and is recovering at home.
- Avon and Somerset Police said a “full investigation” is underway as a man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of rape and was released on conditional bail. Neighbourhood Chief Inspector Keith Smith said: “I know how concerning this incident will be and our priority is making sure we provide the victim with all the support she needs. While these incidents are very rare, our serious sexual offences team Operation Bluestone are carrying out a full investigation into what happened to ensure we can take action.”
- Castle Park also hit the headlines a few weeks ago when a series of attacks which may have been homophobic in nature were reported.
- The attacks happened between Sunday, November 30, and Friday, December 5. Police said the incidents are believed to be linked, involved men of various ages being approached by two men and saw a light being flashed in the victim’s eyes before they were attacked.
- Two men, aged 32 and 24 respectively, were arrested on suspicion of assault. Both were released on bail. Avon and Somerset Police has been contacted for an update.
- Later that month, a man pleaded guilty to three breaches of a Community Protection Notice and possession of a class B drug and was banned from Castle Park. Sain Jadama, 25 and from Henbury, was banned from entering the park for two years.
- In February, Avon and Somerset Police confirmed its drug policy after a man was banned from the park. Najib Abdi, 33 and of Somerdale Avenue in Knowle, was sentenced at Bristol Crown Court on January 29 for possession with intent to supply cannabis, after he was found with a “large amount” of the drug in the park in February 2025. He was also banned from the park for two years.
