Officers made two arrests
Officers descended outside a Stockport supermarket after a knife was seen being carried. Police attended London Road, in Hazel Grove, outside the Sainsbury’s supermarket on Wednesday evening (March 25).
Multiple shoppers reported being ‘locked inside’ the store while the incident unfolded outside. The Manchester Evening News understands the supermarket was temporarily closed for 15 minutes until the area outside was deemed safe.
Witnesses described a large police presence outside the supermarket on Wednesday evening. Greater Manchester Police confirmed it attended the area and says two people, a man and a woman, were arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article.

Their ages have not been confirmed. Both suspects were later bailed, GMP confirmed today (Friday).
A Sainsbury’s spokesperson added: “Our Hazel Grove store is open as usual following an incident on Wednesday evening. We have reported this to Greater Manchester Police and will provide any assistance needed as part of their investigation.”
