Sky News was interrupted just now as the host delivered a breaking news update about Scott Mills, who has been sacked from his post as a presenter on BBC Radio 2. News presenter Jayne Secker said as the breaking news banner flashed at the bottom of the screen: “Bit of an update for you from the BBC that Scott Mills has been sacked.
“We’ve had a new statement from the Acting Director General talking to the team, saying it will come as a shock to many of you, given Scott’s profile and the sudden nature of this announcement. They will update everyone with more information when they are able to. More on that and the rest of the news next…”
Later on in the programme, correspondent Mollie Malone delivered the latest update about Mills to viewers. Standing outside of the BBC’s headquarters, she shared: “The BBC has sacked one of its biggest stars concerning allegations about his personal conduct.
“People will know that Scott Mills has had a long and decorated career with the BBC at Radio 1, 5 Live, and most recently taking over as the host of Radio 2’s flagship breakfast programme at the beginning of last year by way of Zoe Ball.”
She said she’s had “little” detail from the BBC, which released a statement earlier today stating: “While we do not comment on matters relating to individuals, we can confirm Scott Mills is no longer contracted to work with the BBC.”
Mills was on his radio programme last Tuesday and signed off saying that he would be back the following day; however, he was replaced the following morning and has not returned.
He was one of the BBC’s highest-paid stars, with the corporation’s annual report in July 2025 revealing he earned between £355,000 and £359,999 a year.
Malone then read a statement from the BBC’s Director of Music, Lorna Clarke, which said: “I know that this news will be sudden and unexpected and therefore must come as a shock. Not least as so many of us have worked with Scott over a great many years, across a broad range of our programmes on R1, 5Live, R2 and TV.
“I felt it was important to share this news with you at the earliest opportunity.”
The Sky journalist added: “The BBC will want to be seen to be getting ahead of any potential allegations against their biggest stars – they’ve had scandal after scandal in recent years and will want to be seen acting quickly.”
Mills is yet to release a statement following his exit from the BBC.
