Sky News was interrupted for a breaking news alert as Samantha Washington issued a devastating death announcement. The presenter said: “News update to bring you now from the Metropolitan Police who have confirmed that a 14-year-old boy was shot dead yesterday in Woolwich in southeast London. No more information than that, but we will bring you any more developments related to it as and when we get them. But the Metropolitan Police confirming that a 14-year-old boy was shot dead last night in Woolwich.”
It was then confirmed that two teenage boys, aged 14 and 16, as well as an 18-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of murder on Thursday and are still being held in custody. Detective Chief Inspector Lucie Card, who is leading the investigation, said: “Our thoughts remain with the boy’s family and loved ones.
“We are aware of the concern that this incident will cause the local community. We have already made three arrests and our investigation continues at pace. An increased police presence remains in the area.
“I would appeal for anyone who was in the area at the time, who has CCTV or dash cam footage of the incident or has information that could help my officers to come forward.”
Police officers were called to the scene in Lord Warwick Street, an aera close to the Woolwich Ferry and Woolwich Dockyard train station, at around 3.40pm on Thursday. Despite efforts, the 14-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have confirmed his family are being supported by specialist officers.
