Gritters will be out tackling primary routes according to council bosses
A warning for potential snowfall across parts of Derbyshire and the Peak District has been issued by council officials.
Derbyshire County Council has issued the message ahead of the potential overnight snowfall, saying it is sending out its gritters on Wednesday morning (March 24), with snow set to fall on high ground above 400m from around 4am.
It says up to 3cm of snow is expected, and a dusting in lower-lying areas.
A spokesperson for the council said: “Peak District may see some snow during early hours of tomorrow morning.
“High ground above 400m could see up to 3cm of snow and a dusting lower down.
“We’re gritting primary routes in the north of the county from 4am and secondary routes on higher ground.”
The Met Office is predicting snow in some towns and villages including Buxton, Eyam and Chapel-en-le-Frith, whereas other villages such as Stoney Middleton and Bakewell are set for sleet and hail.
Winds are also expected to be strong throughout the evening, with 40mph gusts on Tuesday evening giving way to less-severe gusts of 20mph in the morning.
A spokesperson for the Met Office said, in its outlook for Wednesday: “A mixture of sunny spells and occasional blustery showers.
“These will be locally heavy, with hail, thunder, and some snow on the Derbyshire hills. Feeling cold, with added wind chill. Maximum temperature 8C.”
Snow is set to fall at around midnight, where it will continue into the early afternoon.
