The Teme Valley Environment Group (TVEG) has been running for around 20 years, but concerns for its future have arisen recently.
The group, created in 2007, held a meeting this week in order to try and drum up new members, as there are only four people on the committee.
The meeting was held at Knighton Baptist Church on Tuesday, March 17, with advertising for the meeting labelling the meeting as “crunch time” for the group.
“For over 20 years, TVEG members have contributed to Knighton by planting fruit trees and herb beds for free picking, maintaining the garden at Knighton station, conducting monthly litter picks, hosting plant and seed swaps and much more,” read a poster highlighting details of the meeting.
“TVEG urgently needs new members and ideas, as only four active committee members remain, all in their seventies.
“TVEG is legally constituted with a bank account. If you can help, join us at our Annual General Meeting to learn more.
“TVEG is well-organised and established, so your support can help keep these local initiatives going and establishing new ones. Please come along and help TVEG grow again.”
TVEG is based in and around Knighton. It is an open group and welcomes people of all ages and abilities who are concerned about local sustainability and the environment.
Its concerns include local food production, reduction in the use of plastics, renewable energy supply via its partnership with Knighton Community Woodlands Group and the Big Energy Network, and other environmental projects.
These include regular litter picking, developing sign up to free water refill schemes and providing support to other local single issue campaigns.
It supports and has cross-membership with other local groups, such as Wales in Bloom and the sustainable food group.
