Do not enter abandoned buildings

Following the incident, police have warned people of the risks of trespassing in abandoned or derelict buildings.

Inspector Lisa Hornberger, Safer Neighbourhood Inspector for Droitwich, said: “We would like to remind members of the public around the laws and safety risks around entering abandoned buildings following some recent incidents.

“We are discouraging people from committing an unlawful entry and encouraging parents to speak to their children around this too.

Dangers in abandoned buildings

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police explained buildings such as the one broken into often contain unstable structures, hazardous materials, exposed wiring and unsafe flooring.

There is a serious risk of injury from falls or collapsing ceilings and walls.

Emergency services are also put at risk when responding to incidents in these environments.

The spokesperson added that entering a building without permission could be considered criminal trespass or burglary.

If damage is caused, it could also result in charges of criminal damage.
