While Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment prepares to bring the life of the musical maestro to the silver screen, actor Emraan Hashmi has firmly denied reports of his involvement in playing the iconic actor and filmmaker Mehmood.

Taking to his Instagram story, he stated, “Just to clarify, the report about me playing Mehmood saab in a biopic are untrue. I haven’t been approached for the film, nor am I doing it.” This clarification comes as Hashmi gears up for the release of ‘Awarapan 2’. The unannounced project is reportedly helmed by acclaimed director Neeraj Pandey.
Meanwhile, whispers within the industry suggest that Farhan Akhtar himself will take on the challenging role of portraying Rahul Dev Burman on screen. Further intriguing developments indicate that Akshay Kumar is set to make a special appearance in a separate biopic dedicated to Mehmood, where he will reportedly portray his late father-in-law, Rajesh Khanna. Pinkvilla reports that Kumar has dedicated 10 days to shoot segments capturing the deep bond and friendship shared between Khanna and Mehmood.
The connection between Rahul Dev Burman and Mehmood was profoundly significant, extending far beyond their professional collaborations. Mehmood played a crucial role in giving Pancham Da his initial break in the film industry as a composer, first with ‘Chhote Nawab’, and then more successfully with ‘Bhoot Bangla’ in 1965. Their camaraderie was so strong that Mehmood even offered Burman the lead role in ‘Padosan’, an offer the composer respectfully declined, leading to Sunil Dutt’s iconic portrayal.
