Zuckerberg’s core argument posits that making superintelligent AI widely accessible is not only an economic boon but also a crucial mechanism for preventing excessive power accumulation by governments, corporations, or even the AI itself. “We propose a philosophy based on individual empowerment as the source of prosperity, invention as the primary purpose of superintelligence, and balance of power as the foundation of safety,” he wrote, emphasizing that AI’s primary role should be to aid human invention, not merely automate existing tasks.

“All new technologies create opportunities and challenges. Superintelligence will be among the most important technologies in history, so its opportunities and challenges will likely be greater than any we’ve seen in our lifetimes. We should take this very seriously,” he stated, highlighting the profound impact of this emerging technology.
Zuckerberg believes that empowering individuals through AI will foster economic, social, and political checks and balances, thereby preventing a scenario where a select few control this powerful technology. “But if the power of superintelligence is held by a small number of individuals, businesses, governments, or AI itself, then that will naturally lead to outcomes that are less favorable for everyone else,” he warned. “This is not a technological principle. It is about the balance of power. There is no such thing as a singular benevolent superintelligence.”

Meta, according to Zuckerberg, is uniquely positioned to lead this charge, with its mission historically centered on empowering individuals. “Meta is the company primarily focused on building personal superintelligence for everyone,” he asserted. “Most other labs are focused on building AI for companies, governments, or other institutions, so if those labs lead, then the balance of power will favor larger institutions over individuals.”

To further this goal, Zuckerberg announced Meta’s intention to resume releasing certain open-source AI models, a move he described as a “positive and important force” for preventing centralization and fostering innovation. As part of this initiative, Meta announced the immediate release of weights for Muse Glimmer, a 30-billion-parameter dense model capable of running on consumer-grade hardware, touted as a leading performer in its class. In the coming weeks, the company will also open-source weights for a version of Muse Spark 1.2, described as one of the world’s leading foundation models.
Beyond technological advancements, Zuckerberg also introduced a new $1 billion “Future is for Everyone Fund,” dedicated to investing directly in U.S. communities hosting Meta’s data centers. This fund aims to develop tailored investments and programs, drawing inspiration from success stories like Richland Parish, Louisiana, where increased tax revenue from Meta’s investment led to significant bonuses for teachers.

The Richland Parish example, where teachers received substantial bonuses, underscores the tangible benefits Meta aims to bring to its data center communities.
