During a visit to Madhya Pradesh, Raj Kapoor, who was a close friend of actor Prem Nath (Krishna Kapoor’s brother), was captivated by the sound of a tanpura being played. The musician, Krishna Kapoor, was performing with her face discreetly covered by a veil, piquing Raj Kapoor’s curiosity. He expressed a desire to see her face, yet she maintained her veil. This fascinating detail was later shared by Monty Premnath in a 2024 interview with Vickey Lalwani, where he recounted, “Krishna, my bua, Krishna aunty was playing the tanpura there. Raj uncle wanted to see her face but she would stay under a veil.”
Recognizing Krishna Kapoor’s profound admiration for the acclaimed actor Ashok Kumar, Prem Nath astutely seized this opportunity. He cleverly informed his sister that Ashok Kumar had accompanied him. Believing her favorite actor was present, Krishna Kapoor lifted her veil, only to discover Raj Kapoor standing before her. Monty Premnath vividly described this moment as an immediate and profound connection, a true “love at first sight.” This pivotal encounter swiftly led to their marriage.
Raj Kapoor was merely 21 years old when he married the 16-year-old Krishna Kapoor. Their union preceded his meteoric rise to fame, and as his career as an actor, filmmaker, and producer flourished, so too did their marriage. While their personal life faced challenges, particularly due to reports of Raj Kapoor’s rumored relationships with various actresses, Krishna Kapoor remained a steadfast presence, standing by him until his passing in 1988.
