A significant development has emerged in the case surrounding the attack on renowned actor Saif Ali Khan, which occurred over a year ago at his residence in Bandra. A Sessions Court has reportedly framed charges against Shariful Fakir, the individual accused in the stabbing case, paving the way for the trial to potentially commence in the near future.
According to information published by the Free Press Journal, Fakir, identified as a Bangladeshi national, faces accusations of unlawfully entering Saif’s home with the intent to commit robbery. During the recent court proceedings, Fakir informed the presiding judge that he had not yet received a copy of the chargesheet or other pertinent legal documents. In response, the court issued a directive to the prosecution, compelling them to ensure that the accused is provided with all necessary case paperwork.
The police narrative asserts that Fakir allegedly gained access to Saif’s Bandra residence by exploiting a bathroom entrance during a purported attempt to commit robbery. Investigators involved in the case have suggested that Fakir was initially unaware of whose property he had trespassed upon. Following his entry, the accused allegedly confronted members of the household staff, brandishing a knife and demanding money. The formal complaint details that a nanny, attempting to prevent Fakir from entering a bathroom connected to Saif’s younger son Jehangir’s room, was reportedly attacked with the knife. Furthermore, Fakir is accused of demanding a sum of Rs 1 crore during this volatile confrontation.
Saif Ali Khan reportedly intervened in the unfolding incident after being awakened by the disturbance, endeavoring to protect his family. During the ensuing struggle, he sustained multiple injuries, including a stab wound. The actor was subsequently transported to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery and remained hospitalized for a period of five days before his eventual discharge. Fakir was apprehended on January 19, 2025, after allegedly fleeing the residence post-confrontation. However, his legal representatives have challenged the circumstances surrounding his arrest, contending that police failed to inform him of the reason for his custody and arguing that the arrest itself was unlawful. Fakir’s bail plea is currently awaiting a hearing before the Sessions Court.
