‘Magudam’ box office collection day 2: Vishal starrer gains momentum, Suriya’s ‘Vishwanath And Sons’ takes the lead

Vishal’s directorial debut, ‘Magudam,’ appears to be gaining traction at the box office after a rather subdued opening day. The film experienced a noticeable improvement in audience reception on its second day of release, a Saturday, suggesting an upward trend in its theatrical run. This incremental rise in occupancy figures indicates that as the weekend commenced, ‘Magudam’ successfully attracted a larger viewership.

Despite this positive shift, ‘Magudam’ continues to face an uphill battle. According to Sacnilk, the film garnered a net collection of Rs 70 lakh across India on its second day, with approximately 1,315 shows. This brought its cumulative India net collection to Rs 1.30 crore, with a gross figure of Rs 1.49 crore. On its opening day, the movie managed to pull in Rs 60 lakh net from 1,748 shows, recording an occupancy of just 15%. The fact that the second day saw a slight increase in audience turnout despite a reduction in the number of screenings underscores the film’s growing, albeit modest, appeal.

A significant challenge for ‘Magudam’ comes in the form of direct competition from Suriya’s ‘Vishwanath And Sons,’ which premiered concurrently. The latter has significantly outpaced Vishal’s film at the box office. On its second day alone, the Tamil version of ‘Vishwanath And Sons’ collected a substantial Rs 13.75 crore net, further bolstered by an additional Rs 8.50 crore net from its Telugu release. Within just two days, ‘Vishwanath And Sons’ has amassed an impressive Rs 37.60 crore net across India, establishing a remarkably stronger start to its weekend compared to ‘Magudam.’

‘Magudam’ holds a particular significance as it marks actor Vishal’s inaugural venture as a director. This new role behind the camera has generated considerable interest among Tamil cinema enthusiasts. The film intricately weaves elements of action and drama, showcasing Vishal in a pivotal role both on and off-screen. Having navigated its initial two days in theatres, ‘Magudam’ now aims to capitalize on the remaining weekend screenings. The forthcoming days will be crucial for the film as it endeavors to sustain the momentum garnered on Saturday and strive for enhanced performance at the box office.
