Hingham Man Accused in Fatal Apple Store Crash Has Bail Revoked Again

Brockton, MA – For the second time, bail has been revoked for Bradley Rein, the Hingham man facing charges of second-degree murder and other offenses in connection with the tragic November 2022 incident where a vehicle crashed into the Hingham Apple Store, killing one and injuring nearly two dozen. The decision came Monday during a hearing in Brockton Superior Court after Rein, 57, was arrested Sunday night for violating the terms of his pretrial release by failing a routine alcohol test.

Plymouth District Attorney’s office stated that the alcohol test failure constitutes a breach of Rein’s probation conditions. Prosecutors highlighted that the requirement for Rein to abstain from alcohol and wear an alcohol-monitoring bracelet was "imposed only after repeated violations of less restrictive conditions."

Judge Gregg J. Pasquale granted the prosecution’s motion, ordering Rein to be held without bail for 90 days. He will be incarcerated at the Plymouth House of Corrections pending further legal proceedings. Efforts to reach Joan M. Fund, Rein’s legal representative, for comment on Monday were unsuccessful.

Rein has pleaded not guilty to a series of serious charges, which include second-degree murder, motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury. These charges stem from the November 21, 2022, crash at the Derby Street Shops.

The incident involved Rein driving a black Toyota 4Runner which, according to reports, accelerated and careened through the glass storefront of the Apple store. The devastating impact resulted in the death of Kevin Bradley, 65, of New Jersey, and left 22 workers and shoppers with serious injuries.

Rein’s trial is currently scheduled to commence on January 19, 2027.

During initial questioning, Rein reportedly informed police that his foot became stuck on the accelerator while he was searching for an eyeglasses store within the plaza. However, prosecutors have countered this claim, alleging that he never applied the brake. It has also been noted by prosecutors that Rein had no alcohol or illegal drugs in his system at the time of the crash.

This is not the first instance of Rein’s bail being revoked. Following his arraignment in April 2023, he was released on $100,000 cash bail, subject to stringent conditions including GPS monitoring, a prohibition on operating a motor vehicle, restrictions on leaving Massachusetts, surrender of his passport, and a ban on possessing weapons.

However, Rein was arrested twice more – in September 2023 and December 2023 – and had his bail revoked after allegedly failing to charge his GPS monitoring bracelet, rendering his whereabouts unknown.

In March 2025, prosecutors again sought to revoke his release due to alleged non-compliance with alcohol testing and other requirements. At that time, Rein was mandated to wear a continuous alcohol-monitoring bracelet. Despite this, further violations led to an order for him to undergo alcohol testing three times daily.

In their motion seeking the most recent revocation of pretrial release, prosecutors stated, "The history of this case demonstrates that the problem is no longer the particular form of supervision. The problem is compliance."

Rein is slated to make his next court appearance on October 14.
