ITC Hotels Eyes Strategic Expansion in Dubai and Beyond Amidst Regional Shifts

NEW DELHI – ITC Hotels, one of India’s most prominent hospitality chains, is actively exploring significant expansion opportunities in the Middle East, particularly Dubai, as the region prepares for a post-conflict resurgence. The company is currently "evaluating multiple" offers from property owners in Dubai to manage luxury and premium hotels, signalling a strategic move to capitalize on the region’s anticipated economic rebound.

This ambitious push comes despite a recent dip in tourist flow to West Asia, triggered by the ongoing conflict that commenced on February 28th. However, ITC Hotels maintains a forward-looking perspective, anticipating substantial opportunities once hostilities subside.

Anil Chadha, Managing Director of ITC Hotels Ltd., revealed to the Times of India that while Dubai is a key focus, the second most valuable Indian hotel company by market capitalization is also exploring growth in other "proximal" international markets. The company currently operates a property in Sri Lanka and is poised to open another in Nepal in the near future.

Chadha elaborated on the company’s "asset right" approach, which is geared towards achieving a target of 250 operational properties by 2031. This strategy primarily involves management contracts, though Chadha also indicated a "calibrated increase in owned assets" where strategically beneficial.

"We have built a strong momentum over the last three years with 87 hotel signings and 43 hotel openings, laying the foundation for 250 operational hotels with 22,000 keys by 2031," Chadha stated. "While the managed business continues to scale rapidly through brand-led growth and management contracts, we are simultaneously strengthening our owned portfolio through greenfield developments and strategic acquisitions."

This "twin-track approach," as described by Chadha, is designed to "drive higher management fees, stronger earnings quality and enhanced shareholder value." With an impressive pipeline of 77 hotels comprising nearly 8,000 keys, the hospitality major is also observing a "steady shift towards premium and luxury" offerings, aligning with evolving consumer preferences and market trends.

The move into Dubai, a global hub for luxury tourism and business, represents a significant step in ITC Hotels’ international growth strategy. By positioning itself in key markets with high growth potential, the company aims to solidify its standing as a leading player in the global hospitality sector, ready to capitalize on emerging opportunities as regional dynamics shift.
