Bollywood Star Akshay Kumar Reveals Unpaid Dues, Sparking ‘Dil Toh Pagal Hai’ Speculation
Mumbai, India – Veteran Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has candidly spoken out about facing payment issues from producers during his illustrious career, describing such instances as "cheating." While the actor refrained from naming names or specific projects, his 2024 revelations have prompted discussions, particularly around his cameo in the iconic 1997 romantic drama, Dil Toh Pagal Hai.
In a recent conversation with Ghazal Alagh, co-founder of Mamaearth, Kumar shared his personal experiences with unpaid dues. He explained his unique approach to dealing with such situations, stating, "Main uske baad main usse baat hi nahin karta, chup ho jaata hoon apna side mein nikal jaata hoon… ek do producers ki payment nahin aati hain and that is cheating only… (After that, I just stop talking to them. I keep quiet and walk away… There have been a few producers who haven’t paid me, and that is cheating. I just don’t talk to the person who cheats me. I go quiet and move on.)" This powerful statement highlights his chosen method of disengagement rather than prolonged confrontation when faced with financial misconduct.
The actor’s comments have unexpectedly drawn attention to his brief yet pivotal role in Yash Chopra’s blockbuster Dil Toh Pagal Hai. In the film, which starred Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, and Karisma Kapoor, Akshay Kumar appeared as Ajay, the fiancé of Madhuri Dixit’s character, Pooja. His character’s presence is crucial to the romantic narrative, making him a memorable part of one of the most successful Hindi films of the 1990s.
However, it is crucial to note that Akshay Kumar has never publicly alleged that Yash Chopra or Yash Raj Films were among the producers who withheld his payments for Dil Toh Pagal Hai. His recent statements specifically refer to unidentified producers and do not link the issue to any particular movie. The resurfacing of this discussion appears to be a speculative connection made by the public, given the prominence of his role in the film and the general nature of his revelation.
Akshay Kumar continues to be one of Bollywood’s most prolific actors. His latest theatrical release, the comedy ensemble Welcome to the Jungle, hit cinemas on June 26, 2026. He also recently featured in the horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla and is currently gearing up for the release of Haiwaan. This upcoming project is a Hindi remake of Priyadarshan’s 2016 Malayalam film Oppam, and sees Kumar leading an ensemble cast alongside Saif Ali Khan, Boman Irani, Shriya Pilgaonkar, and Saiyami Kher.
While the identity of the alleged defaulting producers remains undisclosed, Akshay Kumar’s decision to speak out on this sensitive issue sheds light on the financial challenges and ethical dilemmas that can arise within the film industry. His preferred method of handling such situations, though personal, offers a unique perspective on managing professional grievances.
