"The Director’s Trust is Precious": Suvinder Vicky Opens Up About Loyalty and the Legacy of ‘Satluj’

Actor Suvinder Vicky, currently riding the wave of success following his performance in Awarapan 2, has long been regarded as one of Indian cinema’s most grounded performers. However, for Vicky, professional milestones are secondary to the relationships he builds on set. In a candid conversation, the actor reflected on the profound value of a filmmaker’s faith, specifically recalling a tense moment during the production of the Diljit Dosanjh-starrer, Satluj.

A Friendship Tested by Scheduling

The project Satluj, which focused on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, nearly proceeded without Vicky due to a significant scheduling conflict. At the time, the actor found himself caught between the commitments of the critically acclaimed series Kohrra and the filming of Satluj.

Vicky admitted that he initially attempted to withdraw from the film, citing better financial prospects and longer commitments elsewhere. It was a heartfelt intervention from director Honey Trehan that changed his mind.

"When I told Honey that I was leaving his film, he told me, ‘My film will not be made without two people—Diljit Dosanjh and you,’" Vicky recounted. That unwavering commitment from Trehan, whom the actor describes as a brother, convinced him to stay. For Vicky, this gesture underscored a core philosophy: "Whether I end up doing a project or not, that trust shown by a director is precious. It is more meaningful than any professional opportunity."

Shedding Light on History

Despite its artistic merit, Satluj faced significant hurdles, eventually being removed from the streaming platform Zee5. While the film’s disappearance from the OTT landscape was a setback, Vicky remains optimistic about the impact of the story it aimed to tell.

The film chronicles the life of Jaswant Singh Khalra, a figure whose courage and contribution to human rights remain a pivotal chapter in Punjab’s history. Vicky emphasizes that the controversy surrounding the film’s distribution has, in a way, sparked greater curiosity about the man behind the narrative.

When his own daughters approached him to ask what the film was about, Vicky chose to empower them to seek the truth themselves. "My daughters would ask me what the film was about, I told them to Google it," the actor said, adding that he believes the younger generation must engage with the legacy of figures like Khalra, regardless of the film’s availability.

A Stellar Trajectory

Suvinder Vicky’s career continues to gain momentum. His ability to inhabit complex, diverse roles has made him a standout in recent projects. In 2026 alone, he has delivered powerful performances as Brigadier Jahangir in Dhurandhar: The Revenge, SSP Surjit Singh Sugga in Satluj, and Jaideep in Awarapan 2.

As he continues to balance mainstream success with character-driven narratives, Vicky remains committed to the projects—and the people—that challenge him to be better, proving that in an industry often defined by numbers, his true currency is integrity.
