Ravi Teja’s ‘Irumudi’ Takes a Strong Start: Worldwide Gross Hits Rs 24.20 Crore on Opening Day

Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja has once again proven his pull at the box office with his latest release, Irumudi. The film, which explores the complexities of father-daughter relationships, has opened to a positive response, marking a successful start for the production team.

According to industry tracking portal Sacnilk, the film recorded an impressive India net collection of Rs 14.80 crore on its opening day. With a widespread release spanning 2,673 shows, the movie saw a healthy overall occupancy rate of 76.9%. When combined with a robust international performance of Rs 7 crore, the worldwide gross collections for Irumudi have climbed to Rs 24.20 crore within just 24 hours.

Regional Performance Breakdown

The film’s success is anchored primarily in the Telugu-speaking states. The Telugu version of the film dominated the charts, contributing Rs 14.78 crore net from 2,591 shows and maintaining a strong 79% occupancy rate. In contrast, the Tamil version saw a more modest start, earning Rs 2 lakhs across 82 shows.

Audience interest remained consistent throughout the day, peaking during the night shows, which saw an impressive occupancy of 88.08%. The Andhra Pradesh and Telangana regions emerged as the powerhouse markets, contributing a combined Rs 15 crore to the opening day gross. Other states followed, with Karnataka adding Rs 1.50 crore, Tamil Nadu contributing Rs 34 lakhs, and Kerala bringing in Rs 1 lakh.

A Heartfelt Narrative

Directed by Shiva Nirvana, Irumudi steps away from the typical high-octane action fare often associated with Ravi Teja. The film tells the emotional story of Trinadha (Ravi Teja), a devoted Ayyappa follower battling alcoholism, and his evolving relationship with his daughter, Manikanta (played by Baby Nakshathra). The narrative runs parallel to the journey of Gopal Raju (Sai Kumar), who adopts a vastly different approach to parenting his daughter, Gayathri. Together, the families provide a poignant look at how parenting styles shape the lives and voices of the next generation.

Critical Reception

Critics have lauded the film’s emotional depth and its handling of a sensitive, important subject. While some reviews noted that the first half felt slightly crowded with character introductions, the second half effectively ties the narrative threads together to deliver a powerful message.

ETimes awarded the film a respectable three out of five stars, praising director Shiva Nirvana for his nuanced storytelling. The review highlighted that the film acts as a reflection on parenting and the importance of allowing daughters the courage to speak up, rather than teaching them to remain silent.
