Delhi Municipal Corporation Hosts Hindi Proficiency Competitions to Promote Official Language Usage

NEW DELHI: In a bid to bolster the use of Hindi in administrative operations, the Rajbhasha Department of the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) successfully hosted a two-day "Hindi Competition 2026-27" on August 20 and 21. The event served as a platform to inspire civic body officials and staff to integrate the official language more seamlessly into their daily workflows.

The competition featured a diverse array of segments designed to test and refine the linguistic capabilities of the workforce. Participants engaged in various categories, including essay writing, noting and drafting, handwriting, and general Hindi language proficiency. The atmosphere was marked by high enthusiasm, with employees seizing the opportunity to demonstrate their command of the language and their creative expression skills.

To recognize and reward excellence, the MCD has announced a tiered prize structure. Participants securing the first, second, and third positions will be awarded cash prizes of Rs 4,000, Rs 3,000, and Rs 2,000, respectively. Additionally, the department will grant five consolation prizes of Rs 1,000 each to acknowledge commendable efforts.

Speaking on the objective behind the initiative, representatives from the Rajbhasha Department emphasized that the primary goal is to foster a culture of using simple and effective Hindi in the MCD’s day-to-day functioning. By encouraging employees to conduct official business in the national language, the department aims to bridge the communication gap between the government and the public.

Officials noted that promoting Hindi is not merely a procedural requirement but a service-oriented strategy. By utilizing the official language in documentation and correspondence, the municipal body aims to make government services and vital information more accessible and transparent for the citizens of Delhi.

The success of this year’s event highlights the ongoing commitment of the Delhi Municipal Corporation to uphold linguistic standards while enhancing administrative efficiency across its various departments.
