Independent Investigation Launched After Fatal Police Pursuit Near Stratford

A man has died and a woman remains in critical condition following a high-speed collision that occurred after a police pursuit near Stratford yesterday evening.

Warwickshire Police have confirmed that the incident began at approximately 5:30 p.m. when officers attempted to stop a black Audi on Birmingham Road. The driver, however, failed to pull over, initiating a pursuit that saw the vehicle head toward the A46 before circling back toward Stratford on the A439 Warwick Road.

The situation escalated at 5:44 p.m. when the black Audi collided with a white Ford Puma. Reports indicate that several other vehicles were also damaged during the car’s attempt to evade officers.

Paramedics arrived at the scene shortly after the crash; however, the male driver of the Audi was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the white Ford Puma, a woman, was rushed to the hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

In the wake of the tragedy, the A439 remains closed to traffic, with cordons stretching from the Marraway roundabout to the junction with Ingon Lane and Sandbanks Lane as forensic investigators examine the scene.

Superintendent Steve Flavell expressed the force’s condolences, stating, “Our thoughts are with the families of everyone involved in this collision, and we’re providing specialist support to them at this extremely difficult time.”

Due to the fatal nature of the incident occurring during police contact, Warwickshire Police have made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

“They have declared an independent investigation, and we will cooperate fully with their inquiry,” Superintendent Flavell added.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community as authorities continue to piece together the events that led to the fatal car crash. Further updates are expected as the IOPC conducts its independent review.
