India Crowned Top-Performing Market for Nestlé, Paving Way for Global Expansion
NEW DELHI – In a significant milestone for the global food and beverage giant, India has officially emerged as the highest-performing market for Nestlé during the first half of the 2026 calendar year. The country, currently ranked among the company’s top 10 global markets, is now firmly on a trajectory to break into the top five, fueled by a robust portfolio of iconic brands and a strategic focus on volume-led growth.
Philipp Navratil, who assumed the role of Nestlé’s global CEO last September, highlighted the nation’s pivotal role during his inaugural visit to India. “Emerging markets are driving growth for Nestlé across the board, and India is leading the pack,” Navratil stated, underscoring the company’s confidence in the local economy.
A Focus on Real Internal Growth (RIG)
The secret to Nestlé India’s success—which reported a revenue of approximately ₹23,155 crore in FY26, a year-on-year increase of over 14%—lies in its commitment to “Real Internal Growth” (RIG). Unlike growth driven merely by price hikes, RIG focuses on increasing the actual volume of products sold across both mass and premium segments.
“India has been a textbook example of RIG-led growth for the company, which is why we are so inspired by the market,” Navratil explained. He noted that the company intends to double down on investments to capture the surging consumption trends driven by rapid urbanization and the expansion of India’s middle class. “We will not hesitate to make the investments necessary to capture that potential,” he added.
Beyond the Domestic Market: An Innovation Hub
India’s importance to the Nestlé conglomerate extends well beyond its internal consumer base. The country is rapidly evolving into a critical export hub. Nestlé is increasingly leveraging India’s vast pool of talent and technical expertise to support its global operations.
According to Navratil, the company is utilizing India as a center for scaling business services and integrating Artificial Intelligence into its core processes. Furthermore, the company’s local R&D centers are now global epicenters for product development. “A lot of the work we do globally on noodles, spices, and other areas is managed out of India because the capabilities, knowledge, and expertise are here,” he noted.
Commitment to Transparency
As the global conversation around nutrition and health intensifies, the Nestlé CEO addressed the role of corporate responsibility. Navratil expressed strong support for increased transparency in packaged food labeling, encouraging consumers to be more discerning.
“Consumers should look at labels, compare products, and consider not only the price but also what goes into them,” Navratil said. “We welcome consumers making informed and healthier choices about the products they consume.”
As Nestlé continues to navigate shifting global market dynamics, the India operations serve as both a blueprint for success and a primary engine for the company’s future international strategy. With household favorites like Maggi, KitKat, and Nescafé anchoring its presence, Nestlé remains poised to capitalize on the country’s unique blend of scale, innovation, and consumer demand.
