Veteran Telugu Actor and Producer GV Narayana Rao Passes Away at 73

Hyderabad: The Telugu film industry is in mourning following the passing of veteran actor and producer GV Narayana Rao. The versatile artist, who had been battling persistent health complications for some time, breathed his last on Wednesday evening at the age of 73.

The news of his demise has sent shockwaves through the industry, with members of the Movie Artists Association (MAA) and several prominent film personalities expressing their deep condolences, remembering him as a dedicated professional and a cherished colleague.

Born in Kurumaddali village in the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh, Narayana Rao’s journey into cinema began with a formal education at the prestigious Madras Film Institute. His training there laid a strong foundation for a career that spanned nearly five decades.

He made a remarkable entry into the film industry with a breakthrough role in K. Balachander’s critically acclaimed 1976 film, Anthuleni Katha. His nuanced performance in the movie was widely lauded, earning him the prestigious Nandi Award for Best Supporting Actor. Following this success, he proved his range as an actor, transitioning into lead roles in notable films such as Muthyala Pallaki, Oka Oori Katha, Chilakamma Cheppindi, and Oorukichchina Maata. Over the course of his illustrious career, he appeared in more than 100 films, eventually becoming a familiar and respected face in various supporting roles.

The duo collaborated on numerous hit projects, including Chattaniki Kallu Levu, Manchu Pallaki, Raja Vikramarka, Gang Leader, and Hitler. Beyond his on-screen presence, Narayana Rao also ventured into production, backing significant films like Chiranjeevi’s Devanthakudu and Yamudiki Mogudu. Demonstrating his production acumen, he later successfully remade Yamudiki Mogudu in Tamil, starring Rajinikanth in the lead.
