Tribute Games Expands Scott Pilgrim EX with New DLC and Major Arcade Update
Tribute Games has officially turned up the volume on its retro-inspired brawler, Scott Pilgrim EX, announcing the immediate release of the “Back in the Band” downloadable content alongside a substantial, free title update titled “Coin-Op Chaos.”
The new additions aim to breathe fresh life into the pixel-art adventure, offering both expanded combat options for fans and a nostalgic, high-stakes way to play through the game’s campaign.
The “Back in the Band” DLC
Priced at $3.99, the “Back in the Band” expansion introduces three highly requested playable characters, rounding out the core cast with alternate versions of Stephen Stills, Kim Pine, and Knives Chau. Each character arrives with unique animations, combat mechanics, and character-specific abilities designed to freshen up the game’s combo system:
- Stephen Stills: A rushdown-style frontman who utilizes guitar-based attacks and sonic feedback to keep enemies pinned down.
- Kim Pine: A hard-hitting fighter who trades traditional punches for rhythmic drum-based beatdowns and devastating, percussion-heavy breakdowns.
- Knives Chau: A nimble, hit-and-run specialist who uses shadow clone techniques and her signature scarf to weave through enemy crowds.
The DLC also adds three new assist characters—Joseph, Hollie, and Mr. Chau—each providing unique support abilities, ranging from crowd-controlling wall-of-sound attacks to multi-hit shadow clone assaults.
“Coin-Op Chaos” Brings Arcade Nostalgia
For all players, the free “Coin-Op Chaos” update delivers the definitive arcade experience. Inspired by the classic brawlers of the 90s, the new Arcade Mode strips away some of the more modern progression systems, replacing them with a streamlined flow that features lives, credits, and global score chasing.
Key features of this update include:
- Arcade-Style Progression: A faster, more intense journey through the game’s iconic Toronto locations and boss encounters.
- Competitive Scoring: Local rankings allow players to challenge their friends and prove who truly reigns supreme.
- Enhanced Multiplayer: The mode supports up to four players in local co-op, with full online and cross-platform capabilities. Notably, the update introduces a “drop-in/drop-out” system, allowing friends to join or leave the chaos at any time without forcing a restart.
Launch Discounts
To celebrate the arrival of these updates, Tribute Games is offering a 20 percent discount on the base game across all platforms, including PC and consoles. This marks the first time Scott Pilgrim EX has been discounted since its launch. The promotion will run through September 9.
Whether you are looking to master new fighting styles or climb the high-score leaderboards, there has never been a better time to jump into the world of Scott Pilgrim EX. The game is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam.
