Onam Box Office Update: Nivin Pauly’s ‘Bethlehem Kudumba Unit’ Cruises Past ₹124 Crore Worldwide
The Onam festive season has witnessed a clear frontrunner at the Malayalam box office, with the Nivin Pauly and Mamitha Baiju-starrer Bethlehem Kudumba Unit cementing its dominance. As the film concludes its first week in theaters, it has achieved a major financial milestone, comfortably outpacing rival releases, including Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Khalifa.
A Milestone Achievement
According to trade reports from Sacnilk, Bethlehem Kudumba Unit has officially crossed the Rs 50 crore net mark in India. On its seventh day, the film recorded an impressive collection of Rs 8.75 crore, marking a healthy 10.8% growth over its sixth-day figures. The film’s total India net collection now stands at Rs 52.30 crore, with its India gross collection reaching Rs 61.05 crore.
The momentum is equally strong in international markets. With a robust overseas performance adding Rs 63.50 crore to the tally, the film’s worldwide gross collection has soared to an impressive Rs 124.55 crore.
Kerala Leads the Charge
The film’s domestic success is anchored by its exceptional performance in Kerala, which contributed a lion’s share of Rs 9 crore to its Day 7 India gross. Regional contributions remained steady across the country, with Karnataka (Rs 48 lakhs), Tamil Nadu (Rs 30 lakhs), and Andhra Pradesh/Telangana (Rs 7 lakhs) further bolstering the film’s total earnings.
Comparative Performance: ‘Khalifa’ vs. The Market Leader
While Bethlehem Kudumba Unit continues its winning streak, Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Khalifa is experiencing a more modest run. Currently in its eighth day, Khalifa recorded a net collection of Rs 1.25 crore in India, representing a 7.4% decline from the previous day. Its cumulative India net stands at Rs 16.62 crore, with a worldwide gross of Rs 37.51 crore.
Audience Preference Reflected in Occupancy
The stark difference in box office success is further reflected in theater occupancy rates. Bethlehem Kudumba Unit maintained a strong overall occupancy of 71.75% on Day 7, with demand peaking during night shows at 79.17%. In contrast, Khalifa saw an overall occupancy of 45.44% on its eighth day, with its highest engagement also occurring during the night screenings (53.50%).
As the festive season continues, Bethlehem Kudumba Unit appears to have secured its position as the season’s definitive blockbuster, drawing large crowds and maintaining steady growth across both domestic and international circuits.
