The long-awaited celebration of two and a half decades of Xbox gaming has hit a snag, as the newly announced Xbox Series X25 anniversary console has become the latest victim of aggressive retail scalping.

A Steep Price Tag Soars Higher
The anniversary bundle, which features a nostalgic translucent green aesthetic, a 1TB custom-branded console, a matching themed controller, and a copy of Halo: Campaign Evolved, originally retailed for $899.99. Despite this already premium price point, scalpers have successfully found buyers willing to pay exorbitant premiums.
Data from the past 24 hours shows multiple completed transactions for the console bundle ranging between $2,500 and $2,800. The standalone themed controller, which retails for $79.99 and includes a hidden original Xbox logo on the back, is also being flipped for as much as $185—more than double its suggested retail price.

Recent efforts to curb the practice have met with mixed success; for example, Target employees have experimented with opening Pokémon card packaging to lower the items’ resale value, while other retailers have been forced to implement stricter purchase limits and security measures due to aggressive behavior from resellers.
For those still hoping to secure the hardware legitimately, the standalone controllers are scheduled to ship on October 20, 2026, followed by the full console bundle launch on November 13. As of now, official retail channels remain sold out, leaving many collectors waiting for potential restock announcements from Microsoft.
