Milo Yiannopoulos, the controversial British political commentator known for his provocative far-right views, has been taken into custody by U.S. immigration authorities.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed on Friday that Yiannopoulos was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at the New Orleans International Airport on Thursday.

According to a statement provided by a DHS spokesperson, the detention stems from a violation of federal immigration statutes. While Yiannopoulos originally entered the United States legally in 2019, officials allege that he subsequently “chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nation’s laws.”

The government further revealed that an immigration judge had issued a final order for his removal on July 22. This ruling followed Yiannopoulos’ failure to appear for a scheduled immigration hearing. As of Friday evening, the spokesperson confirmed that he remains in ICE custody, where he will be held pending his formal removal from the country.

Legal representation for the commentator was not immediately available for comment, and it remains unclear when he might be deported.

Yiannopoulos has spent years as a polarizing figure within online political discourse, frequently drawing intense public scrutiny and criticism for his outspoken rhetoric and involvement in inflammatory demonstrations. His detention marks a significant development in his long-standing presence in the U.S. political landscape.

This is a developing story. For further updates on this case, you can follow the official reporting on the far-right British commentator via our ongoing coverage.
