Manhunt Underway After Fatal Shooting at Swiss Rave Leaves One Dead and Five Injured
A major police operation is currently unfolding in Switzerland after a gunman opened fire on a crowd at an outdoor event, resulting in at least one fatality.
Authorities in the Aargau Canton have launched an urgent manhunt following a shooting in the early hours of Sunday morning. The attack occurred at a popular venue near the Schachen horse racing track in Aarau, a city located west of Zurich.
Reports from local media suggest that the site was hosting a rave when the violence erupted. According to the Aargau Cantonal Police, the incident took place shortly after 2:30 a.m., when a gunman fired multiple shots into a large gathering of attendees.
In a statement, police spokesperson Vanessa Rumpold confirmed the severity of the incident: “Several shots were fired within a large group of people. It is not yet clear what exactly happened.”
Tragically, one person has died as a result of the gunfire, while five others sustained injuries. Some of the survivors are currently listed in serious condition.
The scene remains under a heavy police cordon as forensic investigators and armed officers process the area. Witnesses described a chaotic scene, with some initially mistaking the gunshots for fireworks. One attendee told local outlet Blick that they were forced to hide under a DJ booth as the shots rang out.
“The manhunt for the unknown perpetrator is under way,” the Aargau Cantonal Police said in an update. “Possible motives as well as the exact circumstances of the shooting are still unclear.”
Emergency services, including fire crews and multiple ambulances, remain on standby at the scene. Authorities have urged members of the public to avoid the Schachen area while the investigation continues and the perpetrator remains at large.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, as police work to piece together the events that turned the late-night event into a crime scene. Officials have promised further updates as the investigation progresses.
