Tragedy in Punjab: Pregnant Influencer Dies After Being Kidnapped and Set Ablaze

A 28-year-old social media personality, Manjit Kaur, has succumbed to her injuries nearly two months after being subjected to a horrific, targeted assault in northern India.

Manjit Kaur, a popular influencer known for her lifestyle and family-focused content, passed away on August 26. Her death follows a brutal ordeal that began on the night of July 3, when she was reportedly kidnapped, assaulted, tied to a tree, and set on fire in the Indian state of Punjab.

A postmortem examination conducted at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh subsequently revealed that Kaur was approximately seven weeks pregnant at the time of her death.

The Sequence of Events

According to a complaint filed by her mother, Kanta Devi, Kaur had been lured to a meeting by two acquaintances, identified by police as Shubhi and Pinda. Upon arriving at the arranged location, the pair allegedly forced the influencer into a vehicle and transported her to a secluded forested area near Morinda.

It was in this remote location that the attack occurred. The suspects allegedly beat Kaur, bound her to a tree, and ignited her, leaving her for dead. She was discovered by a friend who arrived at the scene and managed to extinguish the flames using a blanket.

Kaur was rushed to a hospital, where she remained in critical condition for nearly two months. Sources close to the investigation have suggested that during her brief periods of consciousness, Kaur expressed a desire to provide a formal statement to authorities regarding the identities and motives of her attackers; however, officials claim this testimony was never officially recorded.

Ongoing Investigation

Following the victim’s passing, local authorities registered a formal case of kidnapping and murder. Investigators are currently reviewing CCTV footage along the route from Chandigarh to the scene of the crime to identify the vehicle used in the abduction. However, there are growing concerns among the public and the family that the two-month delay may have resulted in the loss of critical digital evidence.

Despite the investigation, the motive behind this murder remains unclear.

A Community in Mourning

Kaur had cultivated a significant digital presence, boasting over 146,000 followers on Instagram, where she shared promotional content and lifestyle reels. She was also a regular contributor to YouTube, where she documented her life through family vlogs.

Beyond her online persona, Kaur was a mother; reports confirm she was divorced and is survived by a seven-year-old son. As of now, the two primary suspects, Shubhi and Pinda, remain at large, with police units actively searching for their whereabouts.
