New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reaffirmed India’s commitment to global stability, using a high-level bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin to issue a clarion call for the cessation of hostilities in Ukraine.

Meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, the Prime Minister emphasized that the global community has reached a critical juncture. Addressing the ongoing conflict—which has now persisted for over four years—PM Modi stressed that the international community is suffering under the heavy toll of the war and that a shift in strategy is urgently required.

A Message of Urgency

In an official briefing following the summit, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri highlighted the core message delivered by the Prime Minister.

“Not only did the Prime Minister emphasize the importance that we continue to attach to dialogue and diplomacy as being essential in resolving any differences, but also his emphasis on really the need to move from endless war to the end of war,” Misri stated.
