The Rise of AI Integration
The software update marks a strategic pivot for the company, with AI integration sitting at the center of the Sonos 27 operating system. Key features include:
- Sonos 27voice: A proprietary, in-house voice assistant designed for seamless music and system control. It is scheduled for an opt-in, early-access launch this fall.
- Sonos 27mcp: Launching September 8th, this feature allows users to bridge their existing AI models—such as ChatGPT or Google Gemini—with their home audio system.
- Custom Agents: Looking ahead to 2027, users will be able to create up to 10 personalized AI agents. These can be assigned specific personas, such as a “moody detective” for news updates or a “motivational coach” to help jumpstart the morning.

Sonos is also expanding the capabilities of its “Fabric” whole-home system. The company announced that the Move 2 and Play portable speakers can now function as wireless surround speakers for home theater setups, automatically calibrating their positions without manual app intervention.

- Sonos Beam Ultra Soundbar: This redesigned 7.1.2 soundbar introduces two up-firing drivers for true Dolby Atmos spatial audio. Slightly longer than its predecessor to accommodate the new speaker array, it also features advanced AI-driven speech enhancement. It will retail for $699 starting September 29th.
