Roku’s first OLED TVs undercut the midrange competition

The OLED Shakeup: Roku Enters the High-End Market with New Pro Series TVs

The landscape for midrange OLED televisions is undergoing a rapid transformation. Just weeks ago, the market was dominated by a duopoly of LG and Samsung. However, the sector is becoming increasingly crowded, following Sony’s recent unveiling of the Bravia 6 and now, the official entry of Roku into the OLED space with its brand-new Roku Pro Series.

Elevating the Roku Experience

Long known for its ubiquitous streaming sticks and budget-friendly smart TVs, Roku is aiming to capture the mid-to-high-end enthusiast market. The standard Pro Series OLED comes packed with competitive hardware, featuring a 120Hz panel designed to deliver fluid motion for both cinema and sports.

Gamers are a clear priority for this lineup: the television includes four HDMI 2.1 ports, support for FreeSync Premium, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), and an Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM). Additionally, the set supports industry-standard HDR formats, including Dolby Vision and HDR10 Plus. Roku has also focused on usability, shipping the unit with a backlit remote that includes a hardware-based “remote finder” button on the TV itself to eliminate the frustration of lost controllers.

Stepping Up with the Pro Series LX

For those seeking a more premium experience, Roku will follow the standard launch with the “Pro Series LX” next month. This upgraded model boasts significant performance improvements, including a peak brightness roughly double that of the standard Pro Series. The LX also bumps the refresh rate to 144Hz for VRR gaming and integrates a specialized polarizer designed to minimize glare and reflections in brightly lit rooms. As expected, both lines run on the intuitive and widely familiar Roku operating system.

Pricing and Availability

Roku is leveraging a strategic retail partnership for this rollout. The standard Pro Series is currently available exclusively through Amazon, with 55-inch and 65-inch models starting at a competitive $999.

The high-performance Pro Series LX is slated to hit shelves this October. It will retail at $1,299 for the 55-inch model and $1,599 for the 65-inch version. With these aggressive price points, Roku is positioning itself as a serious contender against established giants like Sony, LG, and Samsung, signaling that the midrange OLED market is set to become one of the most competitive segments in consumer electronics.
