‘Bhagyashree took all the credit’: Salman Khan recalls having ‘no work’ for 6 months after ‘Maine Pyaar Kiya’, reveals how Salim Khan stepped in and saved his career with fake announcement | Hindi Movie News

From Stardom to Silence: How a “Fake” Announcement Saved Salman Khan’s Career

Salman Khan is widely regarded as one of Bollywood’s most bankable superstars, commanding massive audiences and record-breaking box office numbers. However, a recently resurfaced video from the popular talk show Aap Ki Adalat reveals that the actor’s rise to fame was far from a smooth trajectory.

Despite the immense success of his debut lead role in the 1989 blockbuster Maine Pyaar Kiya, the actor faced a harrowing dry spell that nearly derailed his career before it had truly begun.

The Post-Blockbuster Struggle

While Maine Pyaar Kiya catapulted him to overnight stardom, it did not immediately translate into a stream of new projects. In the candid interview, Salman recalled a period of four to six months where he found himself completely out of work.

He humorously attributed much of this struggle to his co-star, Bhagyashree. At the time, the film’s massive success was largely tethered to the onscreen chemistry of the pair, but when Bhagyashree made the decision to step away from acting to prioritize her personal life, the industry’s perception shifted.

“She went ahead and got married, walking away with all the credit for the film’s success,” Salman recounted in the video. “People in the industry felt like she was the real star and I was nobody. It felt like I wouldn’t get any work at all.”

The “Fake” Announcement Strategy

Watching his son struggle to secure a second project, legendary screenwriter Salim Khan decided to intervene. Leveraging his long-standing professional relationship with renowned filmmaker GP Sippy, Salim Khan devised an unconventional PR strategy.

He asked Sippy to issue a public announcement falsely claiming that he had signed the young actor for a new film. “My father called GP Sippy… and said, ‘Look, my son has no work, just make a fake announcement about signing him.’ Because they had worked together so much, Sippy went ahead and did it,” Salman explained.

The maneuver proved to be a stroke of marketing genius. Once the announcement appeared in a leading trade publication, the industry narrative shifted instantly. Believing that a high-profile producer like Sippy had backed the rising star, other filmmakers began approaching him with offers, effectively ending his professional hiatus and re-establishing his momentum in the industry.

A Legacy Built to Last

Today, Maine Pyaar Kiya is remembered as the pivotal turning point that launched Salman Khan into the stratosphere of Hindi cinema. Following that early hurdle, the actor went on to become one of the most recognizable faces in global entertainment.

As for his current work, the actor remains as busy as ever. He is currently filming the action entertainer SVC63, directed by Vamshi Paidipally, and is preparing for a high-profile collaboration with directors Raj & DK for an upcoming superhero film.

It is a long way from the days of uncertainty, yet for the superstar, the memory of his father’s bold intervention remains a defining chapter in his journey—a reminder that in the volatile world of Bollywood, Bhagyashree took all the credit back then, but it was his father’s strategic guidance that ensured he would be the one to stay.
