Murder Investigation Launched After Man Dies Following Violent Assault at Liverpool Street Station

A 32-year-old man has tragically died following a “particularly violent” assault at Liverpool Street Underground station, prompting British Transport Police to upgrade their investigation.

The victim, who had been travelling home from the Notting Hill Carnival on Sunday night, succumbed to his injuries yesterday after being rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Emergency services were scrambled to the eastbound Central Line platform at approximately 10:51 pm on Sunday following reports of a severe altercation. Despite the urgent medical intervention, the victim passed away on Tuesday. His family is currently receiving support from specialist officers as they navigate the aftermath of the tragedy.

Jeremiah Maximo, 38, was initially arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm (GBH) in connection with the incident. However, following the victim’s death, the British Transport Police (BTP) have confirmed they will apply to the courts to amend the charges. Maximo, a British national, has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court today.

Speaking on the investigation, BTP Detective Superintendent Sam Blackburn expressed the force’s deep condolences.

“First and foremost, our thoughts are firmly with the loved ones of the young man who has sadly died,” Detective Superintendent Blackburn said. “They are being supported by specially trained officers as our investigation continues.”

Highlighting the nature of the attack, which officials have described as “particularly violent,” police are doubling down on their efforts to piece together the events of Sunday evening.

“The victim was travelling back from Notting Hill Carnival at the time of the incident,” Detective Superintendent Blackburn added. “We continue to appeal to anyone who saw what happened and has not yet spoken to police to come forward and assist our investigation.”

As detectives continue to examine CCTV footage and gather witness statements from commuters who were present at the station during the late-night attack, the force is urging anyone with information—no matter how small—to contact them immediately to ensure justice for the victim and his family.
