TV Presenter Kirstie Allsopp Airlifted to Hospital After Dramatic Fall on Birthday Hike

The Location, Location, Location star has shared a candid update from her hospital bed after a “scary” birthday accident left her with a broken leg.

Renowned television presenter Kirstie Allsopp has revealed she was airlifted to a hospital following a serious fall during her 55th birthday celebrations. The presenter, best known for her long-running Channel 4 property show, suffered the injury while navigating a steep, muddy path near her family home in Devon.

Allsopp took to Instagram to share the news with her followers, posting a series of images that captured the gravity of the situation. One photograph showed the star lying in an ambulance, visibly injured with facial cuts and a breathing tube, while others displayed an X-ray of her broken leg and a cast.

A Birthday to Remember

The accident occurred at Meadowgate, a property in Devon that holds significant sentimental value for the presenter. Allsopp explained that she and her family have made it a tradition to celebrate her birthday—which falls on August 31—at the home, followed by a picnic and swim at Welcombe Mouth beach.

“This year, I slipped on a muddy patch on the steep path, and it took a whole host of people to get me to hospital,” she wrote.

According to Allsopp, the rescue effort was a major operation. Her 18-year-old son, Oscar, sprinted to get help before paramedics from the RNLI Bude Lifeboat and the Devon Air Ambulance successfully tracked her down. She expressed deep gratitude to the emergency services, noting that she was “high as a kite” on pain relief during the rescue and struggled to properly thank those involved.

In a heartwarming response to her post, the Devon Air Ambulance confirmed their involvement, writing: “We’re so glad to hear you’re recovering well… The crew who attended would be delighted to hear your kind words, and once you’re back on your feet we’d love to welcome you to one of our airbases.”

A Resilient Recovery

Allsopp, who underwent surgery to repair the fracture, maintained an optimistic tone despite the ordeal. “It’ll be a boot and crutches for a while, but I feel very, very lucky that it was possible to reach me and get me to hospital so quickly,” she shared.

This is not the first time the presenter has faced a health scare while filming or working. In 2023, she suffered a frightening fall down a flight of stairs at a pub in Stoke Newington while filming Location, Location, Location. While she escaped that accident without any broken bones, she described it at the time as “without a doubt, the scariest thing and most painful thing I have ever done in my life.”

A Controversial Year

The news of her injury comes shortly after a period of intense public scrutiny for the presenter. Earlier in the summer, Allsopp made headlines when she defended her decision to let her 15-year-old son Interrail across Europe. The decision triggered a welfare referral to children’s services, prompting a staunch defense from Allsopp regarding the importance of fostering independence and “freedoms” in modern parenting.

As she faces a period of recovery, Allsopp has urged her followers to consider donating to the emergency services that saved her. You can read more about the airlift incident and her ongoing recovery as she continues to update her fans from home.
