Uganda Airlines Soars Into Tech Frontier as First African Carrier to Deploy Amadeus SkyWORKS

Uganda Airlines has officially entered a new era of operational efficiency, becoming the first African carrier to implement Amadeus SkyWORKS. The flagship airline has signed a landmark agreement with global travel technology provider Amadeus, integrating the advanced flight schedule development solution into its existing technical infrastructure.

The move marks a significant upgrade for the airline’s planning department. Amadeus SkyWORKS functions as an integrated, high-powered workbench that streamlines the complex process of schedule creation. By providing real-time feasibility checks, advanced editing tools, and a centralized repository for reporting and distribution, the software allows the airline’s planners to simulate diverse business scenarios with unprecedented accuracy.

Shakila Rahim Lamar, Acting Chief Commercial Officer of Uganda Airlines, emphasized the transformative potential of the software. “Rollout of SkyWORKS provides our teams with numerous schedule views to evaluate different business scenarios and offers us a central repository for all schedule-related information,” Lamar stated. “The solution will be a transformative addition to our technology stack, accelerating our growth across East Africa and further afield.”

The partnership builds upon a long-standing collaboration between the two entities. Prior to the adoption of SkyWORKS, Uganda Airlines had already utilized various Amadeus solutions, including the Altéa passenger service system, as well as revenue and loyalty management tools.

Yassine Mellak, VP Sales and Account Management for EMEA at Amadeus, noted that this latest milestone reflects a shared commitment to technological progress. “Our partnership with Uganda Airlines continues to evolve, reflecting a shared commitment to innovation and operational excellence,” Mellak said. “This advanced solution will provide greater flexibility and control in schedule management, powered by an innovative technology stack for improved usability.”

Since its relaunch in 2019, Uganda Airlines has focused on establishing itself as a vital link between East African tourist hotspots—including the scenic reaches of Lake Victoria—and major global hubs in South Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. As the carrier looks to bolster its network, efficiency in scheduling has become paramount.

The implementation of SkyWORKS arrives at a critical time for the airline. Uganda Airlines has recently been aggressive in its expansion strategy, seeking to broaden its international footprint through strategic alliances. Most notably, the carrier recently finalized an interline partnership with Air India, a move designed to enhance connectivity for passengers traveling between East Africa and the Indian subcontinent.

By optimizing how flights are scheduled and distributed, the Amadeus deployment is expected to provide the agility necessary for the airline to adapt to rapidly changing market demands. As Uganda Airlines continues its trajectory of growth, this technological advancement positions the carrier to operate with the precision and flexibility of a major global airline, reinforcing its role as a key player in African aviation.
