Shadow Over Acton: Murder Probe Launched After Fatal Attack

Shadow Over Acton: Murder Probe Launched After Fatal Attack

A murder investigation has been launched after a 40-year-old man was shot dead in East Acton during a memorial service.

Police were called to Braybrook Street at 7:47 p.m. on Friday, October 2, following multiple reports of gunfire. Despite the rapid arrival of officers and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service, the victim could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, who is leading the investigation, described the incident as a “senseless act of violence.” Authorities have expressed profound concern regarding the setting of the killing, noting that it occurred while a large group of people—including families and young children—had gathered for a memorial.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of a man whose life was taken in a senseless act of violence,” DCI Howie said. “We understand a large number of people had gathered for a memorial service, and what should have been a time to come together in remembrance has instead left a family devastated. We believe between 40 and 50 people, including children, were present when this incident occurred.”

The victim’s family has been notified and is currently receiving support from specialist officers. A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place to formally confirm the cause of death. As of Saturday, no arrests have been made, and a significant crime scene remains in place at the location.

Detectives are now appealing to the public for assistance, particularly those who were in the vicinity of Erconwald Street, Braybrook Street, surrounding roads, or the Wormwood Scrubs playground between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Friday.

Investigators are urging anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity to come forward, specifically asking for information regarding individuals seen carrying weapons, people acting suspiciously on bicycles, or vehicles driving at high speeds.

“Someone knows what happened, and we need them to come forward,” DCI Howie added.

Police are requesting that anyone with relevant information, including mobile phone footage, photographs, dashcam, or doorbell camera recordings, contact them immediately. Individuals are asked to call 101, quoting CAD 7011/2Oct. Alternatively, those who wish to remain anonymous can provide information through the Crimestoppers website or by calling 0800 555 111.
