High-Speed US 17 Pursuit Ends in Violent Crash and Arrest for Putnam Deputies

A 19-year-old Palm Coast man is behind bars following a violent domestic incident and a dangerous, high-speed chase that ended in a crash on Friday. Reginald De’George Lumpkin was taken into custody by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office after leading deputies on a pursuit through East Palatka.

The situation began when deputies responded to reports of a domestic disturbance in the area of Kelley Smith School Road. According to investigators, Lumpkin had allegedly held his girlfriend at gunpoint, placing the weapon against her head. The victim managed to call for help, but Lumpkin fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.

A short time later, a deputy spotted Lumpkin at a gas station in East Palatka. As the deputy attempted to initiate contact, Lumpkin immediately sped away, triggering a high-speed pursuit. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the suspect headed south on US 17, driving erratically as deputies trailed him. The chase came to an abrupt end when Lumpkin lost control of his vehicle and slammed into the highway median.

Following the crash, the 19-year-old attempted to evade arrest on foot. During the brief foot pursuit, witnesses and officers observed him discarding a firearm. Deputies were able to secure the weapon and quickly apprehended Lumpkin.

Due to the nature of the crash, Lumpkin was transported to HCA Florida Putnam Hospital to be evaluated for potential injuries. After receiving medical clearance, he was taken into custody and processed at the Putnam County Jail.

Lumpkin faces a litany of serious charges stemming from the incident, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, fleeing and eluding police at a high rate of speed, resisting an officer without violence, and evidence tampering.

In addition to the charges resulting from Friday’s events, authorities confirmed that Lumpkin was already a wanted man. He was found to have two outstanding warrants issued in Flagler County.

Lumpkin is currently being held in the Putnam County Jail without bond. He is expected to be transferred to Flagler County to address his active warrants once the local legal proceedings are settled. No injuries were reported to the victim or the responding deputies during the initial domestic incident or the subsequent pursuit.
