Delhi Metro Chaos: Dramatic Foot Chase as Security Takedowns Suspicious Fugitive

Alert CISF Personnel Foil Escape Bid at Delhi’s Jama Masjid Metro Station

New Delhi: Security protocols at the Delhi Metro were put to the test on October 17 when a passenger, later identified as a Malaysian resident, attempted to flee a security checkpoint at the Jama Masjid metro station. The man’s suspicious behavior triggered an immediate pursuit, leading to his apprehension by alert Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel.

The Incident Unfolds

CCTV footage released by the CISF captures the moment the man, dressed in a brown t-shirt and jeans, placed his black backpack on the X-ray baggage inspection system. As the scanner processed the luggage, security personnel noted a dense, suspicious object displayed on the monitor.

Before officials could initiate a formal search, the passenger abruptly abandoned his casual demeanor—previously seen talking on his phone—and bolted toward the exit. He bypassed the women’s frisking zone and sprinted toward the station’s escalator in a frantic bid to escape the premises. Recognizing the security threat, two CISF officers immediately abandoned their posts to give chase. One officer expertly navigated the stairs to reach Exit Gate No. 1, intercepting the individual before he could reach the street level.

Investigation and Recovery

Upon detaining the suspect and escorting him back to the security area, CISF personnel conducted a thorough search of his belongings and person. The search revealed 155 grams of a powdered substance resembling gold, which had been intricately stitched into the inner lining of his undergarments.

The individual was identified as Mohammed Shuaib, a resident of Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, who claimed to be an NRI working in the Malaysian textile industry. According to his statement to the authorities, Shuaib had arrived in India from Kuala Lumpur on October 16 and had been staying at a hotel in the vicinity of Jama Masjid. He informed investigators that he was attempting to travel to Lajpat Nagar at the time of the incident.

Police Response

Initial security concerns led officials to suspect the presence of contraband or narcotics. However, subsequent testing by the narcotics department cleared the substance of being a psychotropic or illegal drug. Despite this, the lack of satisfactory documentation regarding the gold-like powder raised red flags.

Following the investigation, the Supreme Court Metro Police Station registered a formal case against Shuaib under the Delhi Police Act. “The swift action and alertness of CISF personnel highlight their prompt response and commitment to ensuring metro security,” the CISF stated on X, emphasizing the efficacy of their current baggage screening protocols.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the heightened vigilance maintained by security agencies within the national capital’s transit network. The accused remains in custody as authorities continue to probe the origin and intended destination of the recovered material.
